Trapped heat in your attic, Cold Exterior temperature = Trapped Moisture, Condensation. Many times what appears to be a leaky roof is a build up of trapped moisture allowed to form on the rafters/plywood. A long-term situation as this can lead to deterioration of the rafters and plywood and will destroy the attic insulation (if there is not adequate venting the insulation will never dry and will form mould). We all know what extensive damage water can cause to the living area in the home's living space.
